As part of its proactive Better Places 2030 sustainability strategy, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has partnered with Kinexio to reduce energy consumption across its shopping centres.

Cutting energy consumption
Having reduced energy use in Europe by 17% since 2015, URW is aiming to cut consumption by a further 15% in response to the energy crisis and to help halve its global carbon footprint.
To support this strategy, URW has joined forces with Kinexio to implement new technology that monitors tenants’ energy use out of hours. Accessed via the Kinexio platform (branded URW Connect), the technology enables management teams to track lighting, air conditioning and electrical equipment that has been left on unnecessarily.
This data is collected and analysed by the platform, generating a report for centre managers. The new feature is currently in use across 18 shopping centres in France which are home to over 14,000 tenants.
The Kinexio platform has been used by URW since 2016 and is designed to enhance efficiencies and support environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives. The technology allows URW to run its assets without paper and is the primary source of information for tenants on topics ranging from waste disposal through to wellness initiatives.
